ABOUT LE REFUGE
College Mixte Le Refuge is a private school in the Lanzac community of Montrouis, Haiti. We educate over 180 students from preschool through 8th grade. Within the next 5 years, we will enroll students through 12th grade.
Our founder and principal, Gabriel Toussaint, realized that there were many children in his community who were unable to attend school or graduate. He wanted to provide a school that would give children access to a quality education and hope for a brighter future. "Search for a refuge and you will find a refuge" is the motto of our school. The Lanzac parents know that our school will provide a safe environment for their children to learn.
These children are the future of Haiti. We have dedicated teachers who are committed to helping the students learn and succeed in school. Plans this year are to offer beyond the required curriculum classes in English and computers.
BUY A BLOCK. BUILD A SCHOOL.
Le Refuge is out of space in its current building and has no rooms available for the additional grade levels required by the Haitian government. There is uncertainty on how long the landlord will allow the school to continue to rent. If asked to leave, there would be nowhere for the school to relocate. A building to call their own would alleviate these issues.
The new building will not only serve children from preschool – 12th grade, the facility will also be used for adult literacy and vocational training classes. We have a unique opportunity to make a difference in the lives of the children and the adults in the Lanzac community by providing a safe, secure, spacious, permanent school building.
Land has been purchased and a design is in place—but we need your help. Will you join us in making a difference by donating to our Project Refuge Fundraising Campaign? Buy one block for $10 and you will add 1 foot to the school building. Buy 5 blocks for $50 and add 5 feet. Buy enough blocks to build an entire classroom. With your help, we can build a brighter future for the students, one cement block at a time.
Very few students at Le Refuge School have the monies needed to pay for school fees that cover the 13 primary school teachers’ wages. Students drop out and teachers do not receive their wages.
To ensure children are able to receive an education and to assist Le Refuge in retaining quality teachers, we are in need of monthly sponsors for the teachers. If one teacher receives a monthly salary, 30 children will be able to attend school.
Please sponsor a teacher and invest in the future of Haiti’s youth and help bright and deserving children get a quality education and break out of the poverty cycle.
